Lil Nas X 2021 show
Montero, the real name of Lil Nas and the name of his latest album, built hype when it comes to what he will do on stage. First, he did his big entrance with a big marching band, everyone in great pink suits, as he sang “Industry Baby”. Then, moving on, Nas took his jacket and hat off – gifted it to an excited fan – and changed stage. Now in a – still pink – jail-like stage, he continued with “Industry Baby” and performed a killing dance that blew the minds of everyone.
After what we thought was the biggest part of the presentation, Jack Harlow jumped into the song in a flawless entrance. He hyped everyone with his rap in “Industry Baby”, distracting the audience from Nas outfit change and making the transition to “Montero”. Nas shocked us with the choreography, dancing with a “minimalistic” outfit.
Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke 2013 stage performance
We know for a fact that if you didn’t miss this moment, you surely know what we are talking about, for plenty of reasons are. First, this Miley era left us with a lot in general, not only by her behaviour but also by her stage presence generally. This was one of her wildest times, as she was going through a lot – personally and professionally talking.
Setting the scene for her performance, she had everyone dressed as bears and came out of a bear herself. Having a lot of twerks involved, she went through her presentation in a very 2013 Miley way, to say the least. Almost at the end, she had Robin Thicke on stage with her, where she proceeded to twerk and have her best time. You must see to understand why this is one of the unforgettable moments of the MTV VMA’s of all times.
NSYNC 2013 sort of comeback
We can all agree that boy bands were at their hugest spot in the ’90s, and overall, NSYNC set the expectations high. But, sadly, and as it always happens when boys become men, they split up and follow their single paths. This brings us to the 2013 MTV VMA’s, where Justin Timberlake was awarded with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
Knowing his audience, and we all longed for, Justin Timberlake had the best idea ever, bringing the boys back. So right before being awarded, Justin and his ex-bandmates took on the stage one last time to give us an incredible presentation. Singing a medley of their hits “Girlfriend” and “Bye bye bye”, they took us back in time to the ’90s.
Ariana Grande’s 2018 the last supper
Being the new pop princess, Ariana Grande has never left us down with her concerts and presentations. This year being one of the best Ari’s eras, she sang her single “God is a Woman” with fantastic staging. Picture a stage full of women – obviously – and a vast table, resembling the one at Leonardo DaVinci’s painting.
You got it right, Ari recreated Leonardo’s ‘The Last Supper’ painting with nothing but women on stage. Of course, she was the centre of the scene, but don’t be fooled; every woman on stage was a full show to watch. Not having enough with her incredible stage idea, she also took her mom, grandma, and cousin on stage.
Beyonce’s 2011 big MTV VMA’s stage presentation and reveal
As typical for our queen B, she gave the year’s presentation with impressive choreography. Singing her big hit “Love on Top”, she not only gave flawless notes when singing – as she is used to, always. But also, we can see her as she gets a little over-excited as she comes closer to the end of the song.
The moment happened when she delivered her last high note, and the lights turned off around to put her into the spotlight. She dropped the mic and revealed her pregnancy, leaving everyone on the edge as we put together all the pieces. She did not only sing and dance live and on heels, but she got it all done while being pregnant, just amazing.
Lady Gaga 2010 fashion
It is not a lie that Lady Gaga has a unique fashion style, as she has shown us on the MTV VMA’s on 2010. But, as well as her fashion sense, she also has used her spotlight to show us what happens in the world. She mixed both things and made a massive statement for her audience and the army on this occasion.
Her – authentic – meat dress was a reference to a speech titled “The Prime Rib of America”, yes, her dress was prime rib. She used this to talk about the discrimination and anti LGBTQ+ and “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the military. This dress and statement were so bold and strong that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame took it to keep on reminding the audience.
Fifth Harmony’s 2017 stage performance
We have a lot of gossip in this presentation, and until today it still leaves our mouth open from the shadiness. So if you don’t know what we are talking about, let us set the scene, it was 2017, and Camila Cabello had left the band. And the rest of the band members had to make a big statement about it since everyone had an opinion about the group.
Opening the stage with silhouettes of five women – as if Camila never left – they waited until the music started. And just before starting the song, the fifth member was theatrically extracted from the stage. And as if nothing, they started the song, leaving it clear that they didn’t need a fifth member, ah, rude.
Taylor Swift and Kanye on 2009 MTV VMA’s speech
You most likely know both singers, they are both pretty legendary, and this is the beginning of that history. The year is 2009, and Taylor is nominated for the best female video award, alongside a list of very talented singers. However, as she gets on stage to receive her first moon man, Kanye gets a little mad and gets on stage as well.
This interruption let the audience know that Beyonce had “one of the best videos of all time”, in his words. After saying that, he leaves the stage; Obviously, Taylor feels uncomfortable and speechless with her award and everyone’s attention. Later on, Beyonce won the best video of the year and gave Taylor her stage time, letting her give the speech she deserved.
Madonna, Britney and Christina 2003 kiss
Very few things go as youwant or go according to plan in the MTV VMA’s stage, which is why people crave to see what will happen. Knowing the queens we are talking about; it’s not unbelievable that they are going off-script. The presentation was unforgettable from their version of “Like a Virgin”, featuring Christina and Britney alone.
But this is not the best part, and it gets juicier than you can imagine if you didn’t see it. Madonna got on the stage, singing “Hollywood” and started dancing – and maybe even flirting – with both women. And as a closure to the second act of their performance, Madonna and Britney kissed, then Madonna and Christina. Giving the audience the most memorable moment of their lives, they kept the show going and finished their presentation.
Britney Spears 2001 MTV VMA’s
We all remember Britney’s extravagant and outstanding performances, but this one is definitely on every history book. This is her most crazy presentation of “I’m a Slave 4 U”, and if you don’t remember it, here is the tea. Not only is this song a show itself, but she also took it to the next level with her dancing and singing abilities.
All of this while she was coming out of a cage with a real lioness and dancing as if it wasn’t a big deal at all. Not having enough with the lioness on stage, she took an also real and alive snake and danced with it. It was this iconic for Brit’s fantastic stage presence and how seamlessly she took on an alive animal. And yes, if you watch the entire presentation – that we highly recommend – you will be a witness of her incredible talent at the time.
