- First-Ever EuroCup Final
It’s the first time in history that England have reached the final, and they have us all very excited.
After their great football, they want to take the cup away from Italy. It would be an excellent step for England and would go down in history as one of the most important matches for their national team.
2. Another final after 55 years
England reached their first final since 1966 when they were crowned champions for the first and only time in their history at the 1966 World Cup on home soil. This is the only tournament they have won in their record so far.
3. Three of the four finalists in European tournaments this year were English teams
It was a great year for English clubs, and although not all of them got the best ending, they can finish with their heads held high.
This year the Champions League final and the Europa League final had an English presence.
In the Champions League, it was Chelsea vs Manchester City. The London team was crowned champion of the tournament after almost ten years. On the other hand, the Europa League final saw Manchester United vs Villarreal, where the English team played a great game, but lost on penalties in an extended shootout where they were 11-10 with United goalkeeper David De Gea missing the decisive penalty.
4. They played a great World Cup in 2018, where they surprised everyone
After several years as a failure at the World Cup, and after very poor participation in 2014, England played excellent football in 2018, being one of the surprises, being eliminated by the big surprise of the tournament, Croatia, in extra time 2-1. It was a hurtful loss as England were set to win the World Cup.
5. After 11 years, England top their group again in a tournament
England is back at the top of their group after years and is proving they have what it takes to fight the cup, with many young players having plenty to contribute to the team, such as Mason Mount and Phil Foden.
