Many of us think that we can avoid depression and other mental conditions. Still, more often than not, we don’t know that we already are depressed. There are many things you could do to avoid this, and one of them is changing your diet. We believe that diets are about calories; however, we could boost our mental health with the right food.

Food is the main fuel for our brain, and what we eat directly impacts how we feel. Yes, what you eat, when, and after how much time you do your meals can affect how you react to emotions and situations. Food won’t heal you from depression but is a step to improve your recovery and wellness-

Table of Contents

  • Go Mediterranean
  • Embrace Berries
  • Try nuts
  • Don’t be afraid of caffeine
  • Always eat your vegetables
  • Eat fatty fishes
  • Try Dark Chocolate
  • Go Organic
  • Use Natural Oils
  • Go wild with turmeric

Go Mediterranean

Believe it or not, this type of diet includes many kinds of food that can help you with your mental health. The main emphasis of this diet is healthy fats, lean proteins and natural carbohydrates. Thanks to this, you avoid high glycemic content, eating more healthy oils, vegetables and fish. Thanks to that, this diet is linked to a decrease in depression and many more mental issues.

Embrace Berries

Sweet treats release happy chemicals in your brain, like dopamine. Berries, as well as sweets or chocolate, can make this happen and can give you a much needed happy boost. You could try to go vegan or “flexitarian” and try to eat more fruits. If you are not interested in such a big change, you could also just eat more fruits on your regular diet.

Try nuts

When we talk about nuts, we are talking about walnuts in general. Nuts are full of flavour and healthy fats that will improve your memory and other important brain processes. Fatty Acids and Omega-3 can help you have better blood pressure, a healthier brain, and cleaner arteries. Overall you can avoid depression while you help your body to cleanse.

Don’t be afraid of caffeine

Many doctors will tell you that you should avoid caffeine, which means you shouldn’t drink coffee or tea. However, if you drink a cup every morning, you will gain a little concentration boost. Thanks to this, your brain will also work better during the day, which might help you improve your memory.

Always eat your vegetables

Green vegetables are important to any healthy diet and, of course, for a healthy brain. Kale, spinach, collards, etc., will give you vitamin K, Folate, Beta Carotene and more. Some investigations even suggest that plant bussed meals can help you to prevent cognitive decline and mental diseases.

Eat fatty fishes

Fish meat is one of the best meats you could eat; it’s rich in omega-3, fatty acids and unsaturated fats. Everything we mentioned can help you to control your blood pressure, which means you could avoid Alzheimer’s disease, for example. Also, all of those vitamins can help you to avoid depression and similar sicknesses. So you must try to eat fish at least twice a week.

Try Dark Chocolate

Many researchers suggest that this type of chocolate lowers the risk of depression. The best about this is that this tasty treat is one of the healthiest options you could ever get. However, it’s recommended that you try just a few grans a day because an excess can cause migraines, insomnia and dental problems.

Go Organic

Organic food means less harmful substances in your body. Trying to avoid chemicals, it’s crucial if you want to have better mental health. A healthy diet can help you to improve the treating of depression. This is why organic food can be what you need. Doing a detox from chemicals can help you regulate your hormones and other affections causing depression.

Use Natural Oils

Oil isn’t exactly bad; natural oils like olive oil and coconut oil are rich in healthy fats and are very tasty. Although they will improve the overall flavour of your meals, they can also help you be healthier. In addition, those fats can help your heart and will also help you to retain knowledge.

Go wild with turmeric

India and many exotic countries use natural spices that can be as tasty as they can be helpful. For example, turmeric contains curcumin, which can help you with mild and even major depression symptoms. Curry and many other plates use this spice, both to give colour and a flavourful taste.
