Top 5 movies to watch while travelling

We can burn time talking or playing games when we travel, but there’s nothing like a road-trip movie. Watching a movie can be the best way to spend those hours on the plane, and there are amazing movies to do so. We recommend you to watch a film that inspires you to enjoy the experience, and those are movies about travelling.

This might be a little redundant; why would you watch a movie about a trip if you are doing just that? Well, because those movies can make you feel even more connected to the experience. That’s why we present you with our top 5 movies about travel to watch while you are travelling.

Table of Contents

  • Almost Famous
  • Wild
  • Little Miss Sunshine
  • Lost in Translation
  • Thelma and Louise

Almost Famous

If you like music and manic pixie dreamy girls who travel with a band, you will love this movie. On the one hand, this movie is a love letter to the rock genre and what represented in the 70s. And, on the other hand, you will travel with a band and a very young – really, really young – journalist. We can’t recommend this movie enough, it’s dreamy, you get to travel and see the groupie experience, and the plot is so good.

Another thing we must mention it’s the soundtrack. The whole soundtrack is amazing, and there’s a golden part where the band sings along to an epic song by Elton John. From start to the beginning, you will love every character and their experiences.

Wild

We love Reese Witherspoon for the many lead roles she had in the past and how she nail those. However, Wild is far away from Legally Blonde and the rom-com genre she’s traditionally involved in. Here, she’s Cheryl Strayed, a woman how wants to find herself by hiking the whole Pacific Crest Trail.

As we mentioned, the movie is more about self-discovering and meditation. The main character shares her experience and the decisions that make her go through this long hiking alone. As the film goes, we feel more and more inside her skin and a little bit inside ourselves.

Little Miss Sunshine

This is an American Classic and is a cult film because the tragicomedy never stops. The trip starts because the youngest daughter of the Hoover family wants to be a little beauty queen. But, as we can see from the begging, the family isn’t in good shape, and they will confirm this through the two-day road trip they have.

We don’t want to spoil the movie, and talking about every character will do so because it’s one of the most important things in the film. However, we can share with you that, even though they are dysfunctional, they are a wholesome bunch, and you will root for them.

Lost in Translation

Many things have been said about this film, but this is probably the best movie that Sofia Coppola made about strangers and travelling. Lost in Translation is a love poem about being an outcast and feeling isolated in another country and how this can affect you. Also, the movie itself points out how important are the relationship we make during our trips.

Thelma and Louise

Again, this is a classic American film about road trips, crime, powerful women, and more. If you are into action, you must watch this film; here, you will get to know two friends, Thelma and Louise. They both agree to go on a road trip that ends in a crime spree, where both discover how fun it’s to be independent. If we tell you more about this film, we will spoil it for you because the plot it’s very straightforward, so you must watch it at least once.
