5 Brainstorming tips that pros don’t want you to know

The creative process has many phases, and brainstorming is necessary, especially if you work with a team. The best and the most innovative ideas are often born after a good brainstorming between a group that already knows how to work together. This isn’t easy to achieve. However, we share with you 5 tips that every Pro follows.

Table of Contents

  • Keep the group small
  • Be inclusive
  • Share ideas with more things than words
  • Try to get everybody ready ahead of time
  • Choose a good space

Keep the group small

We believe that more is better, but in this case, try to keep the group small. This will help you to keep order and to listen to everybody easily. Too many people involved in a brainstorming session make it goes off track, and you want to stay as focused as you can. Experts also recommend not dwelling too much time on an idea. Instead, let everybody share everything and discuss everything at the end. Also, try to put every idea in a post-it, this way, you can re-order the most important, the less doable.

Be inclusive

Creative spaces don’t judge any idea or anybody. You need to create a team that makes everybody feel accepted and comfortable. In other words, all the team members should feel good enough with everybody, so they can share their ideas without holding back. Try to allow speaking to everybody, and don’t stifle any voice.

Share ideas with more things than words

Concentrate in more than one sense can help you to get more creative. For example, let your team draw or do sketches if they don’t know how to put their ideas into words. If you can, submit your ideas with visual references during the meeting. With visual references, you allow your colleagues to interact with your ideas in another way, making it easier to have an innovative idea.

If that isn’t enough, you could also play music in the background or build an atmosphere. A good environment could buff the productivity of your teams and help them be more creative. In case you use music, try to use relaxing tunes or lyric-less tunes.

Try to get everybody ready ahead of time

A few days before every session, all the members of the team should know the topic, the expectations that you have as the leader, and the final goal. If everybody is prepared ahead of time, you will have a better flow of ideas. We recommend you also share some of the info you have about the topic, so you can set where to start.

Choose a good space

The environment is key to get things working creatively. We already mention that you can create an atmosphere. Still, if the space is dark, tiny, or uncomfortable, the work won’t flow no matter what you do. Find somewhere where everybody can be comfortable, relaxed, and inspired.
