3 comedy specials you need

Comedy is a relief and might be exactly what we need in these hard times. Now we spend a lot of time at home and if we don’t we haven’t reach that “normality” we might expect by now. This is why a funny relief is something that we are asking for since the last year and many comedians somehow knew this.

Most of these specials are on Netflix; you don’t have any excuse to not watch at least one. Comedians talk a little about their mental health in a funny way, so we can say to ourselves that depression isn’t a big deal.

James Acaster: Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999

Deconstruction is very “in” word right now as everyone is in the process of evolving. This year was pretty hard on many so we needed that inner change so we can become better people. This is one e of the things James Acaster said to himself too and he talks about it on this funny, yet very deep special.

The special is all about his mental health and his successful career. He presents his struggles as a joke, so we can feel represented but we can also think that, behind every joke, co-exists a more gritty reality.

Ali Wong: Baby Cobra

Ali Wong is all about feminism in both of her specials. In this one, she talks about being an Asian American, Hip-Hop, and about sex with a fresh perspective. Even though Baby Cobra was launched in 2016 is funny as heck and is filled with a good amount of filthy jokes.

Bo Burnham: Inside

The whole internet has been talking a lot about this clever, deep, and yet funny comedy special. Bo Burnham made this feel during the quarantine, on its own and without any help. The music, the light, the visuals are all made by him, which makes it a little more interesting to watch.

He talks a lot about his mental health and the “Funny Feeling” of profound loneliness and isolation. Few movies and ever fewer comedy specials can capture, in a funny way, those emotions. We highly recommend you to watch this.
